![]() Developed for middle school and high school assemblies, What's Up With Guns is a weapon education program that tells a compelling story about a teen who uses his parents' gun to kill a student at school. The wide-reaching effects of his actions, as well as how those involved could have prevented the tragedy, are covered in great detail. What's Up With Guns provides youth with steps to take if someone they know has a gun or is trying to obtain one. It also illustrates the chain reaction of tragic events that occur after a shooting, exploring the effects from the perspective of those involved, the student body and the entire community. Teachers, counselors and parents are a secondary, yet very important audience for What's Up With Guns. It is our hope that the program encourages kids and teens to turn to their parents, teachers, coaches, counselors or other adults in the community when they are faced with a potentially violent situation. These adults must be sensitive to the special circumstances that today’s youth face. The presentation is divided into four parts:
Each segment was developed by a knowledgeable expert in their field. See The Presenters to learn about the people who volunteered their time to help create What's Up With Guns. The following schools have already benefited from What’s Up With Guns: Ceasar E. Chavez Middle School, Hayward, CA |
